Chelsea could use the profit made by selling Conor Gallagher to Everton in their efforts to sign Benfica star Enzo Fernandez. The Toffees are understood to have submitted a £40million fee plus £5million in add-ons for the midfielder, as the Blues remain in talks over a move for the Argentina World Cup winner.
The west London outfit have spent over £450million since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed their £4.25billion takeover at Stamford Bridge. There have been seven new signings completed so far this month including deals for Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Benoit Badiashile, Joao Felix, Malo Gusto, David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos.
Gusto will complete his move to Chelsea at the end of the season after returning on loan to Lyon for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign. There has been a desire from the Blues to sign a new central midfielder throughout January and Fernandez has remained their priority target despite having a verbal offer of £55million for Brighton's Moises Caicedo be rejected earlier this month.
