Everton and Liverpool fans face more travel chaos as new rail strikes announced

Liverpool and Everton fans are set to have their away plans impacted for trips to Manchester City and Chelsea respectively as rail strikes in March and April have been planned.

The Reds are set to travel to the Citizens at the beginning of April (April 1) while the Blues will make the trip to Stamford Bridge next month (March 18) but face disruption with members of the RMT union from 14 train operators set to strike on March 16th, 18th, 30th and April 1st. Members of RMT at Network Rail will strike on March 16 and then ban overtime work.

It is the latest act of industrial action following strikes in October and November as well as at the start of February. Jurgen Klopp's side will make the trip across the north-west to face Pep Guardiola's side, but could avoid the trouble should their clash be rescheduled for Sky Sports coverage the proceeding Sunday (April 2).

On Thursday, the new strikes were announced for March and April after the union rejected the rail industry's latest offer.

"Rail employers are not being given a fresh mandate by the government to offer our members a new deal on pay, conditions and job security," the RMT general secretary, Mick Lynch, said. "Therefore, our members will now take sustained and targeted industrial action over the next few months.

"The government can settle this dispute easily by unshackling the rail companies. However, its stubborn refusal to do so will now mean more strike action across the railway network and a very disruptive overtime ban."

Last month, the Blues faced travel chaos as train tickets for their trip to the capital to face West Ham were not available the week of their encounter. Away supporters were forced to face a nervous wait for the trip to the London Stadium after train operator Avanti West Coast were late in their release of timetables and fares.
