National media spot 'altercation' that briefly halted Seamus Coleman and Everton celebrations
It's been another successful weekend for Everton and Sean Dyche after the Blues recorded a much-needed 1-0 win against relegation rivals Leeds United at Goodison Park.
Captain Seamus Coleman was the hero of the day, catching goalkeeper Illan Meslier off his line with a brilliant second-half strike from a tight angle.

The narrow win moves Everton out of the relegation zone and with another home game to come against Aston Villa next weekend, Dyche will have the opportunity to notch up three straight home wins that would get his reign as Everton boss off to a flyer.

Back in 2014 when Roberto Martinez still had hair and was steering Everton to their highest-ever Premier League points total while Amadou Onana was not yet a teenager, Seamus Coleman was on his way to plundering a career high seven goals but while time and tide wait for no man and the 34-year-old is no longer as prolific in the opposition half, the player who now captains the Blues showed he is still the man for the big occasion. It’s been over a year since Coleman last found the net – since Leeds United were last at Goodison Park in fact, when he put his side on their way to a 3-0 win with a fearless diving header – but after drawing a blank in back to back campaigns in which he played 30 plus matches in both in 2019/20 and 2020/21, the skipper has shown once more that he’s not done yet.
Even if he hadn’t had netted his wonder-goal here, Coleman was immense at both ends of the pitch and demonstrated how he’s every inch the modern full-back having revolutionised the position at the club after replacing Tony Hibbert, the man who holds the Everton record among outfield players for the most appearances without scoring (328). In truth, when Coleman found himself in an advanced position before his goal he was Everton’s furthest player forward and had no options to pick out in the box so after having a look up, he was well within his rights to have a shot.
