Everton academy graduate Nathan Broadhead seals loan move to new club

Everton forward Nathan Broadhead has joined Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old will experience Championship football following his successful stint in League One with Sunderland last season. Broadhead scored 13 goals - including several crucial late winners - as he helped the Black Cats secure promotion through the play-offs.

Sunderland, where fellow Everton striker Ellis Simms is now on loan, were hopeful of securing Broadhead's return but he will instead spend this season at Wigan, who were promoted alongside them.

Broadhead made a significant contribution to Sunderland's promotion campaign despite his season initially being disrupted by injury. He still reached double figures and late goals to seal wins against Shrewsbury Town and Gillingham were crucial in the final weeks of the campaign.

Broadhead. who joined the Blues' academy at the age of 10, made his senior Everton debut in December 2017, coming on as an 82nd-minute substitute in the 3-0 Europa League group stage win over Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.

He then won Everton's Under-23 Player-of-the-Season award in 2018/19. Broadhead joins Simms in heading to the Championship while fellow academy prospects Tyler Onyango and Lewis Dobbin have moved on loan to League One, to Burton Albion and Derby County respectively.
