A number of cultural and sporting events have been cancelled or postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, September 8.
The period of royal mourning will be observed from Friday, September 9 until seven days after the Queen’s funeral. The funeral date and length of national mourning are yet to be released.
During this time, a number of events will be either cancelled or postponed.

The Proms
The Last Night of the Proms was due to take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday, September 10. Friday’s concert will also be cancelled, while Thursday night’s Proms concert ended early.
The Mercury Music Prize ceremony
The Mercury Music Prize ceremony was due to take place on Thursday evening (September 8) but was postponed.
Nominees, including Sam Fender and Self Esteem, had already arrived at the venue when news of the Queen’s death was announced.
Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House cancelled the opening night of its new production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni on Thursday evening. However, the production will run from
Friday, September 16, unless otherwise informed.
The Opera House will also be closed on the day of the Queen’s funeral.
London Fashion Week
A number of London Fashion Week events have been cancelled, including Burberry’s fashion show that was set for September 17.
The British Fashion Council also announced that all Fashion Week parties would be cancelled.
Strikes
Postal workers called off their strike, which was set for Friday, September 9.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has also called off its strikes, which were planned for September 15 and 17.
The Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) has called off all industrial action planned for September.
Protests
Extinction Rebellion has postponed this weekend’s planned Festival of Resistance in London until further notice.
Trade Union Congress
The TUC Congress, which was due to be held in Brighton from Sunday, has been postponed.
Sports
This weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, and the Scottish Football Association announced that this weekend’s professional games would be postponed.
Matches in the National League have also been postponed and the Barclays Women’s Super League, Women’s Championship, and Women’s FA Cup fixtures scheduled for the weekend have also been postponed.
