Even when they aren’t facing one another in the NBA Finals, the legacy of the storied rivalry between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers is palpable. Especially so when one of them makes the league’s greatest stage without the other opposing them with the total number of titles won currently being tied at 17 each, a shared record for the most championships ever won.
And despite being friendly oftentimes in other contexts, when it comes to who reaches their 18th banner first, the knives come out between alumni and fans of the two teams. Such is the case at present with the Celtics facing off against another foundational franchise in league history, the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals.
In a new article by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, one can see how that rivalry still has a pulse and then some based on some of the comments made by alumni of both ball clubs.
