Even more to come from striker Morgan Steedman, says St Johnstone WFC head coach Grant Scott

She netted both the goals and offered an impressive all-round display in the win against Glasgow Women.

But St Johnstone WFC head coach Grant Scott is sure there is even more to come from forward Morgan Steedman.

Steedman struck one in each half to help earn Saints a 2-0 Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 triumph on Sunday.

The first, a header from an Alix Moodie corner, was followed in the 73rd minute by a composed finish.

“Morgan is hugely important in the group and she has managed to score regularly throughout the season which is what you want from your main striker,” Scott told the PA.

“She is a very gifted footballer and we’ve actually played her just off the forward line a few times recently also, so she has got a bit more about her than just an out and out number nine.

“The great thing for us is that I believe there’s even more to come from her but on Sunday she led the front line perfectly. She secured possession, gave Glasgow’s defence no peace and grabbed the winning goals.”

Saints, now with back-to-back wins over second-placed Glasgow Women, are building plenty of positive momentum.

“It was possibly the most controlled performance from the players since I arrived," Scott added.

“It’s a great result to go away to Glasgow Women and come away with a win at any time.

“But the manner that we did that on Sunday was great to see, very hard working, disciplined in defence and crucially we took our chances when they came.”

This latest victory followed on from a 6-0 triumph over Stirling University and, for Scott, the clean sheets are just as pleasing as the goals at the other end.

He said: “Naturally we’re happy with the goals but the clean sheets have been something myself and Murdo (Steven) are pleased with.

“Having the players acknowledge how important those are and working hard as a team to defend well after a couple of tough results, in terms of goals lost, has been great to see.

“A good week past but we now look forward to a home match against Queen’s Park.”
