Evangelicals Revolt Against Trump's 'Culture of Death' Following Nidal Hasan Public Execution Directives

US President Donald Trump gave mixed signals on Friday, 9 October 2026, over whether the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan at Fort Hood, Texas, would be livestreamed, following criticism from evangelical and Catholic leaders who condemned the proposed public broadcast by firing squad (Credit: Skidmore from Peoria, AZ, United States of America, CC BY-SA 2.0 , via Wikimedia Commons)

President Donald Trump gave conflicting signals on Friday, 9 October 2026, about plans to livestream Nidal Malik Hasan's execution at Fort Hood, Texas. His remarks followed condemnation of the proposed firing-squad broadcast by evangelical and Catholic leaders.

The controversy followed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth's announcement that the Pentagon intended to make the execution available for public viewing. Hasan, a former US Army psychiatrist, is scheduled to be executed on 3 December, although legal challenges could delay the sentence.
