‘Euston, we have a problem’: Manc passengers stuck in London amid rail CHAOS

Train passengers have faced chaos following major disruption in London this evening (June 17). All Avanti West Coast services from Euston have been halted after a vital line was blocked due to a reported fire.

Commuters have faced severe delays and some have been advised to divert via services to Birmingham New Street. Avanti West Coast have said that tickets dated for travel today (June 17) will be valid for travel tomorrow at any time via the same route.

Hundreds of users have hit out on Twitter about the delays.

James Baker tweeted: "First trip to London in over 2 years and stuck at Euston on Friday night as all trains cancelled due to a fire on the line! #frustration."

Laura Hendry tweeted: “It would be really great if the railway system could just… work? This is my second journey in/out of Euston with @AvantiWestCoast in under two weeks that’s had severe disruption (and strikes haven’t even started yet).”

And Sophia Carey tweeted: “I’ve been on the train from euston to manchester (usually takes 2.5 hours) for coming up to 4 hours now and we’ve only just got to Milton Keynes."

One passenger, who boarded the 16.05 train from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston, said they were supposed to arrive at 19.05.

"I'm on a train to Birmingham New Street now which is what Avanti advised. But because of the Euston shut down, literally everyone will be trying to go from Moore Street to London Marylebone,” they told the Manchester Evening News .

"So that's Manc passengers and Birmingham passengers. The actual journey from Manchester was fine, but no one has any updates at all and I can imagine Moore Street is going to be hell on Earth."

One social media user tweeted a picture of Euston packed with passengers waiting to depart, with the caption: "Euston. We have a problem."

Avanti West Coast confirmed the major line between Milton Keynes Central and Euston was blocked due to damage to overhead electric wires.

The rail operator tweeted: "All departures from London Euston are currently suspended. Tickets dated for travel today, 17 June, will be valid for travel tomorrow at any time via the same route."

Euston was briefly running as an exit only due to the signalling and overhead line issue being worked on by engineers, but later opened and advised passengers that there would be ongoing disruption.

They have since tweeted that three out of four rail lines that engineers have been working on are now open but it will ‘take time’ for displaced services to be able to use them.
