Eurovision's Hannah Waddingham savages Amanda Holden with brutal put down

Hannah Waddingham threw some shade at Amanda Holden on Tuesday night, Eurovision fans suspect.

The Ted Lasso actress, 48, part of the star-studded presenting team for this year's Eurovision Song Contest, joining Alesha Dixon and Ukrainian singer Julia Sanina on stage last night for the first of the competition's two semi-finals.

Graham Norton will join the gang for the big final on Saturday, with Radio 2 DJs Scott Mills and Rylan Clark also in the mix to present all things Eurovision from Liverpool.

But Hannah's comments have got everyone looking back to last year's contest, which saw Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda present the votes for the UK via video link to Italy.

"Bon soir. Goedenavond. That is 'good evening' in French and Dutch although I've got absolutely no idea which is which," Amanda famously said during her Eurovision cameo.

As Hannah, Alesha and Julia hosted the first live Eurovision show last night, Benidorm actress Hannah seemingly couldn't resist a cheeky dig at Amanda as she explained in French the voting rules for the semi-final.

She added: "You see Europe, some of us Brits do bother to learn another language."

Viewers watching at home couldn't help but wonder if Hannah was having a dig at Amanda and poking fun at the awkward 2022 moment.

"Hannah Waddingham throwing shade at Amanda Holden already?! I love her so much!!!! #Eurovision," one quipped on Twitter last night, with another adding: "Hannah Waddingham throwing Amanda Holden under Le bus, quality shade #Eurovision."

A third declared: "Hannah throwing SHADE at amanda holden is iconic."

"Hannah waddingham flexes how she can speak french and makes a comment that I think is supposed to be interpreted as shade towards amanda holden," one Twitter user mused.

Another joked: "That's Hannah off Amanda Holden's christmas card list... #Eurovision."

Last night's first semi-final saw Ireland kicked out of the contest and fail to qualify for the big final set to take place in Liverpool this weekend.

Dublin band Wild Youth represented the country and was one of the five acts eliminated during the first live semi-final of the week at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

The group were competing against 14 other acts for a spot in Saturday night's show.

The 10 countries who made it through to the grand final were Croatia, Moldova, Switzerland, Finland, Czechia, Israel, Portugal, Sweden, Serbia and Norway.

This year, the Eurovision Song Contest is being held in Liverpool despite Ukraine winning the competition in 2022, as they have been unable to host due to the ongoing war with Russia.
