Live updates as Thomas Cashman accused of murdering Olivia Pratt-Korbel appears in court

A man accused of murdering schoolgirl Olivia Pratt-Korbel is set to appear in court this morning.

The nine-year-old was shot dead with a .38 caliber revolver inside her own home in Kingsheath Avenue, Dovecot.

The gunman had been chasing after Joseph Nee at the time of the shooting on Monday, August 22.

Multiple shots were fired during the attack, wounding Olivia's mum, Cheryl and Nee .

Thomas Cashman, 34, from Grenadier Drive, West Derby, has been charged with the murder of Olivia; two counts of attempted murder, and two counts of possession of a firearms with intent to endanger life.

A second man, Paul Russell, 40, from Snowberry Road, West Derby, has been charged with assisting an offender. Both men are set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court today, on Monday, October 3. Read updates from the day here.

Torturer, bungalow crash driver and caravan park thug among crooks jailed this week

A thug who kidnapped and tortured his girlfriend, a man who brawled in the street with his dad using weapons and a man who left his friend needing metal plates in his face were among the Merseyside criminals jailed this week.

Also locked up was a BMW driver who smashed his car into the bedroom of a 92-year-old's bungalow, leaving her seriously injured. Meanwhile, Liverpool Crown Court heard that a paedophile began distributing indecent images online only months after being released from prison.

Full details of what Liverpool's spectacular Eurovision celebration could look like

Liverpool is tantalisingly close to being named the next city to host the Eurovision Song Contest.

The city is down to the final two in the race to host the showpiece event next year, with only Glasgow currently standing in its way. A decision is expected in the coming days which will reveal the city that has been chosen.

This year's contest was won by the Ukrainian entrants Kalush Orchestra. However the winning country is unable to host next year's event because of the Russian invasion.

The UK came second this year thanks to Sam Ryder's efforts. As the runner up it was decided that the UK would host next year's Eurovision Song Contest. A number of UK cities put bids forward and earlier this month it was announced that Liverpool and Glasgow had made it to the final two.

Now - as we await that final decision - the ECHO can reveal more details of what would make up Liverpool's spectacular bid for Eurovision.
