- In a nail-biting final, Bulgaria’s act DARA spectacularly won the 70th annual Eurovision Song Contest.
- This is the first win for Bulgaria. DARA is a star in her own right in Bulgaria, known for hits such as “Thunder” and “Call Me”.
- Israel came second. The competition was surrounded in controversy due to Israel’s participation with entry Noam Bettan, and five countries withdrew from the contest in protest.
- The UK came last, with just one point from Ukraine. This meant it was not nul points for Look Mum, No Computer, but the act was savaged on social media, with one social media user branding the performance “a crime against humanity”.
- Meanwhile, a late favourite – Australia–- failed to take the crown with a lacklustre audience vote despite doing well with the jury.
