Eurovision 2023: Who is representing the UK and who was the 2022 and 2021 entry?

Mae Muller will represent the UK at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night. The competition will kick off on May 13 in Liverpool on behalf of Ukraine who came top last year with Kalush Orchestra's Stefania.

The 25-year-old will be taking to the stage with her track I Wrote A Song. Mae co-wrote I Wrote A Song with Brit-nominated Lewis Thompson and Karen Poole, who has contributed to over 30 top 20 UK hits.

Following the semi-finals, which took place on Tuesday and Thursday this week, the grand final running order has been announced. However, the UK had already drawn its slot as the host nation, with Mae set to perform last on the night.

Mae will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Sam Ryder who came second in 2022 with his song SPACE MAN - co-written with Wales-based songwriter Amy Wadge. But who is Mae Muller? Here's everything you need to know.

Who is Mae Muller?

Mae Muller will be representing the UK at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest. The 25-year-old singer and songwriter from London and pens honest, sassy pop music. Mae has released two EPs, has millions of views on YouTube and TikTok, has over 2 billion streams.

She also supported Little Mix on their 2019 stadium tour. According to the official Eurovision site, in 2021, Mae scored a top 10 US hit with platinum-selling single Better Days with NEIKED and Polo G, which she performed on TV shows including Jimmy Fallon and The Voice US.

Mae was announced as the UK entry back in March, at the time she said: "I'm so excited to participate in Eurovision this year and represent the UK. I've loved watching Eurovision all my life, so to compete in such a massive music competition is simply brilliant. I’m a huge fan of so many of the artists that have found success at Eurovision, from ABBA to Måneskin.

"Sam Ryder was so amazing last year and proved the UK can be back on the left-hand side of the leaderboard. I wrote the song 'I Wrote A Song' a few months ago when I was going through a hard time and wanted to feel empowered about relationships, so for it to be chosen for this year’s UK Eurovision song is honestly a dream."

TikTok star Sam Ryder represented the UK in 2022. The singer, who had over 12 million followers on the platform at the time, rose to fame covering hits with his extraordinary vocals in lockdown. He went on to impress at the song contest, coming in second place with his song SPACE MAN.

In 2021, the UK contestant was James Newman with Embers. The Brit Award-winning and Grammy-nominated songwriter, who is the brother of singer John Newman, got a second chance after the competition was cancelled in 2020 for the first time since 1956 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

James was originally set to represent the UK with the song My Last Breath, but took to the stage a year later with his "positive and upbeat" entry Embers instead. Unfortunately, James came bottom of the leaderboard. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
