More than 800 schools in several parts of France were closed Monday as a record heatwave, which killed three people over the weekend, was set to intensify. Both France and Belgium have announced cuts to their rail services as authorities across Europe issued health alerts in a bid to cope with record temperatures.
Much of Europe was preparing Monday for an already fierce heatwave to intensify even further in the coming days, with some countries taking special measures to mitigate its effects.
