Europe heatwave tracker: Dozens dead from drowning in France as extreme heat sweeps across continent

At least 40 people have died from drowning in France since the weekend as a major heatwave brings record temperatures to Europe, authorities have said.

Much of France was set to experience temperatures of around 40C on Tuesday, after records were shattered on Monday with absolute highs of 43.3C recorded in Châteaumeillant.
