"Players are urged to check their tickets and give us a call if they think they are tonight's lucky winner."
The current record lottery win in the UK is an anonymous player, who landed a £170m jackpot in October 2019. If no ticket holder matched the seven numbers last night, the jackpot would have rolled over to £197m on Friday's draw.
A study in 2016 identified Merseyside as one of the luckiest places in the UK to play the lottery. The figures showed 14 people with a Liverpool postcode had been turned into millionaires over the previous two years.
