England’s dramatic Euro 2024 penalty shootout win over Switzerland was watched by a peak television audience of 16.8 million on the BBC.
More than three quarters of the nation’s television viewers watched Gareth Southgate’s side book a semi-final meeting with Holland.
The quarter-final was also streamed 8.9 million times across BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and app.
The figures were not as high as England’s last-16 win over Slovakia, which drew a peak audience of 18.4 million viewers on ITV.
England’s opening game against Serbia had a peak audience of 15m, while their second match with Denmark peaked at 13.1m. The lacklustre draw with Slovenia drew a peak television audience of 15.4million viewers.
Wednesday’s semi-final with Holland in Dortmund will be shown on ITV.
The other semi-final between Spain and France on Tuesday will be shown on the BBC.
The Euro 2024 final is in Berlin next Sunday.
