Euphoria Hunter Schafer sent fans into a frenzy when she featured in the trailer for The Hunger Games ' prequel, A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The movie will be the fourth offering in The Hunger Games saga, based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, which were extremely popular back in the 2010s when the initial trilogy was turned into a film adaption.
Jennifer Lawrence rose to fame as she played the lead character Katniss Everdeen, joined by the likes of Josh Hutcherson, Liam Henderson, Elizabeth Banks and Stanley Tucci.
The prequel to the trilogy was first teased to audiences in June last year and was set to star Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage and the return of Stanley Tucci.
In April 2023, the official trailer for the A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was released and starred Rachel Zegler and the lead character, Lucy Gray Baird and Tom Blyth, playing a young Coriolanus Snow, who ends up as the cunning and villainous president in the original trilogy.
Despite the star studded cast, fans were floored by a short snippet of Hunter as Tigris Snow, a stylist and sibling to Coriolanus.
In Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 2, which was released in 2015, Tigris was only shown for a short moment and had a feline appearance made up of face and arm tattoos, a surgically flattened nose like that of a lion and golden eyes.
Tigris, who was played by Eugenie Bondurant, helped Katniss and members of the resistance group, offering them shelter as they fought through the deadly Capitol to put the Hunger Games to an end for good.
In the trailer, Tigris is shown with bright blonde hair styled in a 50s hairdo and in a bright pink suit. She looks fresh-faced, far from her appearance later on in the books and films.
Fans took to Twitter to share their excitement over the importance of the trans icon's role as a cisgendered woman in the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster.
"It’s huge that an openly trans woman has been casted to play a cis female role, I can’t wait to see hunter schafer in the hunger games. i know she’ll do Tigris justice," one wrote.
A second put: "Hunter Schafer in ‘the hunger games: the ballad of songbirds & snakes’ …omg she’s so beautiful can you hear me SOBBING???"
A third chimed in: "Makes me emotional to see a trans girl slaying so hard in a big budget dystopian movie. Hunter Schafer is iconic."
