EU tops combined medal standings at Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics

As the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games wrapped up, European Union member states emerged as the dominant force when their results were combined.

The Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France all placed inside the top six, underlining Europe’s strong presence at the Games.

EU countries collectively won 54 gold, 56 silver and 54 bronze medals, for a total of 164 medals.

Norway finished first overall with 18 gold medals and 41 in total, followed by the United States (12 gold, 33 total).

The European Commission and the European Parliament celebrated the success of EU athletes.

The unofficial combined score marks a major achievement among the bloc's members, with Italy taking first place, Germany second and France rounding off the top three among the 27.

"Congratulations to all competitors on their dedication and this achievement," the Parliament said in a post on X.
