Eton accused of breaking no grassroots football rule following Queen's death

Two private schools played friendlies on Saturday afternoon, despite the FA ordering all football to stop out of respect for the Queen.

The FA confirmed no football at any level - including the Premier League - would be played this weekend following the passing of Elizabeth II on Thursday. The Queen died peacefully at her Balmoral estate, with King Charles III succeeding her as the sovereign.

Yet the public became aware of two friendlies between Eton and Rossall when the latter school tweeted about the games. Eton have told Mirror Football they believed the games "were not covered by the FA postponement as they were not FA fixtures".
