Dame Esther Rantzen has said she is now 'too physically fragile' to travel to Switzerland for an assisted death, and that the law in England and Wales has left her in a 'messy and cruel' position.

The 86-year-old broadcaster and Childline founder, who has terminal lung cancer, made the comments in a statement released on Thursday, on the eve of the second reading of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill in the House of Commons on Friday.
