English county cricket club Essex are facing charges related to alleged racism within the organization spanning nearly ten years. The charges were brought forth following an investigation conducted by the Cricket Regulator.
The Cricket Regulator, an independent body tasked with ensuring compliance with the sport's regulations, operates separately from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The announcement of the charges against Essex was made on Monday, after the completion of the investigation.
"It is alleged by the Cricket Regulator that there was systemic use of racist and/or discriminatory language and/or conduct at Essex, during the period between 2001 and 2010, which Essex failed to address," the Cricket Regulator said in a statement.
"An independent panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission will hear the case in due course," the statement added.
