ESPN analyst Tim Bontemps has been covering the Boston Celtics for some time and knows the team as well as anyone in the national NBA media. So it was notable when he weighed in against a trade of Brooklyn Nets superstar forward Kevin Durant for Celtics star wing Jaylen Brown (and presumably much more in terms of players and draft assets) on a recent episode of the ESPN ‘Hoops Collective” podcast.
For Bontemps, having two young wing players has been the most important currency a team can have in pursuit of an NBA title in today’s league, and Boston could have that for over a half decade if it can convince Brown to re-sign.
The age, injury history and other factors that come with Durant are also worth consideration cautions the ESPN analyst.
