The Heat beat the Knicks 109–101 in Miami on Monday night to take a 3–1 series lead.
The moral of the story on Monday night was the same that has plagued the Knicks throughout the series; when it came time to close the game, New York could not get enough stops to hold Miami at bay.
Instead of making peace with the obvious coming out of Game 4, ESPN’s Mike Greenberg went a different route when discussing the Knicks’ struggles that have put them on the cusp of elimination.
“[People don’t realize] how hard it is to go down to Miami this time of year,” Greenberg began on Tuesday morning’s edition of Get Up! “People will immediately associate that with the nightlife and all that. But according to Jalen [Rose], there’s more than that. There’s also just the reality of the temperature change, the heat, the geography, being down there for three days. It just zaps a little bit of your energy and your strength. We talk about that primarily in football. I know this is an indoor sport, but I mean for the Knicks, whatever it is, [Jimmy] Butler has just destroyed them.”
Predictably, the internet reacted rationally to Greenberg’s wild take. Here are some of the best tweets from around the NBA world upon hearing about Greenberg’s theory for the Knicks’ struggles.
true. It’s really tough, especially playing outside like they do. If they played in an air condition controlled environment we wouldn’t be having this conversation but unfortunately that’s not the case.

The 8th seed is plowing through the East and the ESPN can’t help but make up excuses for the other teams

Seriously, Mike? Just did a 45 minute power walk with the dog and we barely broke a sweat. Maybe the Heat are just, y’know, outplaying us. https://t.co/0iSSKfOW34 pic.twitter.com/k8Xvp5QpeL
