ESPN's Marly Rivera has been fired after saying the words "f****** c***" in the direction of a fellow female reporter in an incident at Yankee Stadium.
Last Tuesday before the New York Yankees took on the Los Angeles Angels there was a disagreement over who was set to interview Aaron Judge, the Yankees star. Rivera and fellow reporter Ivón Gaete clashed when they both attempted to interview Judge, with Riviera claiming she'd set up a time with the player, only to be ignored by Gaete.
As tensions rose, Riviera could be heard on camera using the explicit language before she later tried to apologise, only to be knocked back. ESPN have since confirmed to the New York Post : “She no longer works here."
Riviera had been a dugout reporter on the Home Run Derby, some 'Sunday Night Baseball' telecasts and is an ESPN Radio MLB playoff game analyst. She was able to speak several languages, which added to her ability on screen, especially when interviewing Latin players.
She has since accepted responsibility for her outburst: “I fully accept responsibility for what I said, which I should not have. There were extenuating circumstances but that in no way is an excuse for my actions. I am a professional with a sterling reputation across baseball and I do believe that I am being singled out by a group of individuals with whom I have a long history of professional disagreements.”
Rivera has stoked the fire by suggesting her dismissal is due to her being targeted: "I am a professional with a sterling reputation across baseball. I do believe that I am being singled out by a group of individuals with whom I have a long history of professional disagreements."
