There’s a lot of hype surrounding Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman ahead of the 2024 season, but also some skepticism given his small sample size.
Some believe that Weigman projects as one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, while some need to see more out of him on the field before they’re willing to give him that type of praise.
ESPN analyst Jordan Rogers is among those who falls into the former category, ranking Weigman as the No. 5 quarterback in the Southeastern conference with a chance to finish the season with a much higher level of notoriety.
“Going back to the tape, the Miami game last year, you’ll see big time throws under pressure in one singular game, it is truly uncanny,” Rodgers said in an interview with Saturday Down South.
“I started marking down plays do go back to at some point, and 15 deep, he was under fire the entire game… back foot would hit the ground and there would be someone in his face within a second and half and he’d be ripping the seam right on the money in tight coverage.”
Over four games last season, Weigman connected on 82 of his 119 passing attempts for 979 yards and 8 touchdowns, rushing for two more scores. Even in limited action, Weigman’s talent has been evident with his ability to operate well from pocket with accuracy, in addition to the high level of arm strength he brings to the table.
How Weigman progresses in a full season will be one of the most-watched topics in college football in 2024 on the quarterback front, and that will all get started when Texas A&M opens the season against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
