Escape to the Chateau’s Dick and Angel Strawbridge have enjoyed a spike in their income after making a whopping £670,000 from their showbiz careers in the last year, despite the recent axing of the long-running show.
The British couple became national TV stars in 2015 after the premiere of the Channel 4 reality series, which followed them on their journey to purchase and restore a French castle whilst juggling their roles as parents to two children.
It has now been revealed that the Strawbridges have amassed serious revenue from their three companies, TShirt Patisserie Limited, Chateau Television and Jera Enterprises, over the past 12 months.
The news comes less than a year after it was confirmed that Escape to the Chateau would not be renewed for a 10th season following claims of undisclosed conduct concerns.
Last month, a Channel 4 spokesperson told the media that, "Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future." Two Rivers, the production company behind Escape to the Chateau, also confirmed that they would "no longer work with Dick and Angel" but refused to comment further on the matter.
Of the celebrity couple's three businesses, it was their TShirt Patisserie Limited that saw the steepest value increase in the past year with a jump from £270,000 to £688,000. Meanwhile, Chateau Television's worth more than quadrupled with an increase from £50,000 to £286,000, and their third company, Jera Enterprises, was boosted by £13,500 to £470,500. Dick, 63, and Angel, 45, run all three companies via a fourth company, which holds the shares.
The entrepreneurial couple's departure from the show was reportedly driven by conflict behind-the-scenes, which included clashes with producers and rumors of verbal abuse. A leaked audio recording of Angel calling a member of crew "a f***ed up little c**t" only fuelled the speculation, leaving many viewers of the show shocked by the married pair's alleged uncouth behaviour off camera.
Dick and Angel are now preparing to leave France for the UK to commence a theatre tour in October 2024, much to the excitement of their loyal fans.
Escape to the Chateau regularly pulled in audiences of over 2 million and has long been considered one of the most popular home renovation shows on British television. When news of its axing was confirmed in October, fans of the series were quick to share their disappointment online.
"Heartbroken this is the last series," one person tweeted, before adding, " I love seeing what Dick, Angel and the children are up to every year."
In a statement to address the cancellation, Dick and Angel said the following: "It’s our finale of the classic Escape to the Chateau, it’s been an adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold. The good, the bad and the ugly…we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy [their children] when they’re older."
