Escape room coming to famous Merseyside landmark

A brand new attraction is coming to one of Merseyside’s seaside icons.

Escape the Fort, a World War 2 themed escape room centre, is set to open its first escape room at New Brighton’s Fort Perch Rock this spring, with more rooms following soon after.

The 200-year-old Fort Perch Rock, a landmark along the New Brighton seafront, will host the escape room, which will see teams work together in groups of between two and six people tasked with saving the Fort from invasion.

Players will be transported to September 1940, where they will need to crack codes, test their wits and keep their cool under pressure to save the Fort, and the country, from invasion.

As well as the escape rooms, a bistro called ‘The Mess’ is coming to Fort Perch Rock.

It is understood that both attractions are set to open in early May.

The man behind the plans for the Wirral seaside resort, Dane Brookes, said: “The [escape room] game is fully immersive, with authentic props and actors creating a truly unique experience.

“The attraction will be suitable for people of all ages. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.”

Praising the plans, Paul Martin, Labour councillor for New Brighton, said: "Seeing the Fort Perch Rock brought back into use would be a welcome sight for the people of New Brighton.

“It’s a fantastic building with a huge historical tale to tell.

"I support any initiative that brings jobs and footfall to New Brighton and wish the operators the best of luck and look forward to meeting them."
