KOCHI: Ernakulam railway protection force has registered a case against a family for verbally abusing tribal activist Daya Bai while travelling from Ernakulam to Panvel on a train.
The case has been registered under sections 145 (b) and (c) of the Railways Act, which will invite punishment for six months of imprisonment or fine of Rs 500 or both.
Section 145 (b) is committing nuisance or act of indecency or uses abusive or obscene language. Section 145 (c) is willfully or without any excuse interferes with any amenity provided by the railway administration so as to affect the comfortable travel of any passenger.
The incident took place on Sunday when Daya Bai boarded the Kochuveli-Porbandar Superfast Express from Ernakulam. RPF has identified the Malayali family, who verbally abused Daya Bai for her attire.
Daya Bai filed a complaint with the Ernakulam RPF on Wednesday. The activist faced harassment, abuse and insult for hours ever since she boarded the train.
