Former Swansea striker Michu has revealed that he’s recently spoken with Erling Haaland, and tipped the Borussia Dortmund star to join Barcelona this summer.
A host of European football’s elite clubs, including Chelsea, have been linked with a move for the 21-year-old, whose contract with Dortmund has a £67million release clause that can be triggered in the summer transfer window.
The Norway striker is enjoying yet another sensational campaign, scoring 23 goals in 20 appearances and has also been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Haaland enjoyed watching Michu while he played for Spanish side Rayo Vallecano and Swansea, and the two have since gone on to establish a close relationship.
Whilst no concrete decision on his future has been made, Michu has claimed that Haaland will seek a move that will allow him to challenge for top honours in the summer.
He told Cadena SER, as reported by Mundo Deportivo: 'I was with [Erling] Haaland and I had a conversation with him. I don't think he's going to continue at Dortmund.
'Haaland is looking for a very strong team that can compete in the Champions League. He's looking for a competitive team.
'He gave me the feeling that he's looking for a long-term sporting project and he told me he likes Spain.
'He's thinking more about a sporting project than from an economic perspective.
'If [Kylian] Mbappe goes to Real Madrid, I think Barcelona would be a very good option. And in these times, Haaland is cheap.'
It seemed that the signing of Romelu Lukaku last summer had solved Chelsea’s perennial centre-forward woes, however the Blues record signing has scored an underwhelming 10 goals in 27 appearances so far this season.
With the Belgian striker so far failing to justify his £97.5million transfer fee, the Blues are expected to be in the hunt for Haaland’s signature in the summer.
