Erling Haaland 'set to miss' Rangers clash as Dortmund superstar's injury comeback delayed

Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland is set to miss this week's Europa League clash with Rangers, according to reports.

The striker sat out his side's weekend win over Union Berlin with a muscle issue and looks unlikely to return for Thursday's play-off first leg.

Ruhr Nachrichten and others report Haaland reported to BVB's training base with his personal physio on Monday morning but did not train alongside the other players who didn't feature in Sunday's 3-0 victory.

And it's said to be very unlikely the Norwegian will feature against Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side this week.

Haaland's season has been struck by injury issues but he appeared to be finding fitness again before breaking down ahead of a 5-2 drubbing by Bayer Leverkusen earlier in February.

Rangers ' visit to Signal Iduna Park was pencilled in as the 21-year-old's return date date but it now appears that has been pushed back.

Meanwhile, Dortmund 's veteran Mats Hummels defender aimed a dig at his team-mates despite a morale-boosting win at the weekend.

He sat out the battering from Leverkusen and made a cutting observation about his colleagues' willingness to defend for the cause.

Hummels said: "He said: "Honestly, I'm glad we were able to increase the gap on the fifth-placed team.

"In order to compete with a team like Bayern Munich, we have to bring a lot more to the pitch.

"When I watched us against Bayer Leverkusen, I didn't see too many players who were interested in defending.

"It's clear we didn't listen to what our manager had told us before the Leverkusen game. If you are serious about challenging, you can't play that way.

"Against Union, we had more stability because we had defensive midfielders helping us.

"Maybe at some point in the future we can dream, but I don't see that happening at the moment."
