Erik ten Hag has been told that he needs to perform more than just 'keyhole surgery' to fix the problems at Manchester United.
The Reds suffered an embarrassing campaign in 2021/22. Early exit in the League and FA Cups followed by defeat in the round of 16 to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, meant that United experienced no joy away from a disastrous league season.
A total of 58 points was United's worst Premier League campaign ever and left Ten Hag with plenty to ponder this summer. Interim boss for most of the season, Ralf Rangnick, has departed Old Trafford before he could take on his consultancy role while Paul Pogba officially left the Theatre of Dreams on Wednesday.

But according to former Chelsea player Joe Cole, more is needed to help rectify the troubles at United. He told Coral: "He's (Ten Hag) got a huge job.
"Probably the biggest job in world football at the moment trying to revive Manchester United. It's staggered me watching them from afar and watching the capitulation after such a promising start.
"I was at Old Trafford the day [Raphael] Varane was presented first game of the season. [Bruno] Fernandes got a hat-trick and Pogba was outstanding.
"There was so much positivity and it's just fallen to pieces. It's a real head scratcher because there's so many things wrong there.
"It doesn't need just a little bit of keyhole surgery. It seems like it needs a complete rebuild. So hopefully they're on that path and Ten Hag is going to be given the tools to do it."
