Erik ten Hag is reportedly taking an 'active' role in Manchester United 's attempts to sign a new back-up goalkeeper to David de Gea.
The Red Devils let Dean Henderson, who served as De Gea's number two last season, join Nottingham Forest on loan this summer.
That came after the Englishman had grown frustrated with his lack of opportunities, making just three senior appearances last term.
His frustration has since led to him blasting chiefs at Old Trafford for "criminal" behaviour in keeping him on the bench. And his departure has left a gap at United, who have been forced to prevent Nathan Bishop or Tom Heaton from leaving.
For the opening day defeat to Brighton, Heaton filled the role of De Gea's back-up, though he was not needed. But Ten Hag is keen to bring in a new face in his goalkeeping ranks, with The Sun reporting he has taken an 'active role' in that search.
The Red Devils are said to have spent weeks scouting for a new number two keeper, with Ten Hag said to have brought his own 'favourites' to the table. Goalkeeping scout Tony Coton has also drawn up a list of options, with Ten Hag's thought to be more expensive than has been budgeted.
Despite being linked with a move to League One side Wycombe Wanderers, academy keeper Bishop remains on United's books. He will hope his season does not go the same way Henderson's did last year, which led to the Englishman blasting United this week.
HAVE YOUR SAY! Was Dean Henderson right to slam Manchester United for their treatment of him? Comment below.
"I didn't want the manager to come in and be able to see me in training. I knew he'd probably want to keep me, so I tried to do it all before I left for the season. I told all the hierarchy I need to go and play football, I don't want to be here playing second fiddle," he told talkSPORT.
"It was all planned out. I was almost gone before the manager came through the door and I haven't spoken to him since. To be honest with you, it's probably been the toughest 12 months of my career. It's been tough, it's been hard and I'm so happy I've got out the other end of it. I'm so excited to be here and ready to go.
"The conversation I had coming out of that Euros squad was 'you're coming back here to be the number one goalkeeper'. I got Covid, come back, I should have still been the number one, but unfortunately, no-one followed through with anything they told me.
"It was frustrating because I turned down so many good loans last summer for that reason and they wouldn't let me go. So, it was frustrating. To sit there and waste 12 months, it's criminal really at my age.
"I was fuming. But I worked hard off the pitch and on the training pitch to keep improving day in, day out. So I'm really excited to be here. I'm looking forward to the season with Forest."
