Erik ten Hag responds to Marco van Basten Manchester United transfer suggestion
Erik ten Hag played down the suggestion that Manchester United could look to sign Hakim Ziyech this summer after Dutch legend Marco van Basten recommended him for such a move.
Ziyech, 29, played under ten Hag at Ajax but has struggled for regular game time since he moved to Chelsea two years ago. United are in the market for another forward at the end of the season and the interim manager Ralf Rangnick has advised the club to look at signing two attackers if possible.
Morocco international Ziyech is certainly a player who Ten Hag knows well from their time together in Amsterdam and Van Basten believes he would be a good fit at Old Trafford.
"What comes to my mind now is that I think Ziyech, who already plays in England, could be a very good footballer at Manchester United for Erik," Van Basten told Ziggo Sport on Monday.
Three Manchester United players return to training
Luke Shaw could return from ankle surgery to play in Manchester United's final game of the season at Crystal Palace.
Shaw has played 45 minutes for United in the last two-and-a-half months after having metal bolts removed from the double leg break he sustained against PSV Eindhoven in September 2015. The 26-year-old underwent surgery last month and two weeks ago stepped up his recovery with individual sessions at United's Carrington training complex.
Shaw joined teammates for a full session on Tuesday as United prepare for the game at Selhurst Park, needing a win to be certain of Europa League qualification. Jadon Sancho could also return to the United side as he has recovered from tonsillitis.
