Erik ten Hag makes Manchester United takeover admission after Qatari Sheikh Jassim bid

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists he is "focusing on football" amid a week of takeover developments.

Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani lodged his interest late on Friday evening and that was followed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Meanwhile, US hedge fund firm Elliott Investment Management are also reported to have entered the race to purchase the club.

With the Reds hosting Leicester City in another crucial Premier League clash on Sunday before Thursday's Europa League second leg against Barcelona, Ten Hag has plenty to focus on without being distracted by takeover developments.

"Of course I know [about the bids],” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “There's movement around the club but it’s not up to me. Others at the club are taking [charge of] this stuff and I have to manage the team.

“I have to make sure the team is perfect and getting the right results. Every third day we have a game so I don’t have time to get involved in stuff like this.

“It's not distracting us. We are focusing on football, on the games and preparing in training. That is our job to do. It doesn't distract us, so far so good.”

Al Thani's statement released on Friday promised to load no debt onto the club. The subject of debt has been a controversial one ever since the Glazer family arrived at Old Trafford. Ten Hag was asked if this was an important issue for him and he insisted he simply wants a team that can compete at the highest level.

“Fans may have a different approach but we want to have a good team who can compete for the highest [honours] in the world," the United boss added. "We have huge ambitions that we want to fulfil, we do it now with this team and we always want to strengthen.”

Asked specifically about his thoughts on Qatar's human rights record, the Dutchman refused to comment, echoing that he is just concentrating on the football.
