Erik ten Hag knows where Antony must play for Manchester United vs Man City after striker role in league win

Erik ten Hag faces a crucial team selection decision as he decides how he must set Manchester United up when they take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The all-Manchester affair at Wembley will decide where the second domestic trophy of the season will end up residing for the upcoming year. Old Trafford or the Etihad Stadium awaits for one of the oldest pieces of silverware in world football.

United are in the hunt for their second trophy of the campaign having already hoisted the Carabao Cup three months ago. For City, Pep Guardiola's men are aiming to secure part two of the Treble as they aim to emulate's United 1999 achievement.

United have already beaten City this season, of course. Ten Hag's side beat City the last time they met at Old Trafford in January with a 2-1 Premier League victory, with Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford completing a turnaround victory after Jack Grealish's opener.

Despite initial concerns that winger Antony might not be involved in the Wembley showpiece after he was carried off in the win over Chelsea, Ten Hag gave an encouraging update over the weekend. He believes the attacker could recover for this Saturday's clash.

Antony came off the bench to replace Anthony Martial at half-time of the win over City at Old Trafford in January. Should he be available and fit to start against City, Ten Hag has already hinted that the winger will start on the right flank after admitting the striker experiment against Guardiola's side did not work.

Speaking after the win at Old Trafford in January, Ten Hag said: "We had to sub Martial and then we played with Antony as the striker. It didn't work as he's better on the right side, obviously.

"In the first half, Bruno [Fernandes] was brilliant, on the right, on the left, in and out of possession. In the striker position, I wanted to change it just before the [City] goal came and to bring Antony dos Santos over to the right.

"It was more of a team performance. I've seen a lot of brilliant players on my side today. I mention Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw. I have to mention Fred.

"I definitely have to mention Bruno, he was really brilliant. And what do you think about Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia? I think all my players were brilliant."

Should Antony come through the fitness tests United will have before the Wembley encounter, and whether he starts or comes off the bench to make a contribution as United bid to cap off the campaign with their second trophy of the season, Ten Hag now knows without question where the Brazilian must play.
