Erik ten Hag says he will be the only person who chooses who Manchester United's next captain will be.
Harry Maguire is still the official club captain, but Bruno Fernandes was the de facto captain last season amid the defender's long absence from the starting line-up.
The Portuguese midfielder is the favourite to take the armband permanently this summer, a decision that Ten Hag says he will make on his own.
Raphael Varane captained United in the first half of their pre-season win over Leeds on Wednesday, with Charlie Savage taking the armband for the second half of the match.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag was quizzed on the captaincy issue and whether he would let the dressing room vote on who they thought the next captain should be.
"No, I don't let the dressing room vote," the United manager grinned. "It is up to me."
Goals from Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill gave United a 2-0 win in their first friendly match of the summer, while Mason Mount shone on his first outing for the club.
Ten Hag was pleased with what he saw from his new midfield signing and believes that Mount will go on to have success at the club in the coming years.
He added: "We expected him to be comfortable. We know his capabilities, and he will absolutely increase the level of our team. It is exciting that we have him, Bruno and Casemiro, but don’t forget we also have other options – for example, Christian Eriksen.
"Definitely one of the options we have is Bruno, Casemiro and Mason and we have to see how that develops and how it progresses in pre-season and going into the season."
