Erik ten Hag goes one better than Sir Alex Ferguson with sensational Man Utd record

Erik ten Hag is the fastest manager to reach 20 wins at Manchester United - beating legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson to the feat.

Ten Hag's Red Devils saw off Charlton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Tuesday night, with Marcus Rashford netting a brace and Antony bagging the opener in the 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

The win was United's eighth straight victory in all competitions, with the Red Devils last losing back on November 6. Since that defeat by Aston Villa, Ten Hag's side have beaten Fulham, Burnley, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Everton. They also got revenge on Unai Emery's Villans.

Ten Hag's Old Trafford tenure didn't get off to the best start with the Dutchman tasting defeat in his first match in charge.

Man United were beaten 2-1 by Graham Potter's Brighton and were then thumped on the road by Brentford, losing 4-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

But since the difficult start, United have been on a steady progression under the former Ajax boss, who has had to make some very big calls, including overseeing the termination of Cristiano Ronaldo's contract.

Ten Hag has been credited for giving young players a chance in his United team - with Alejandro Garnacho particularly impressive over the past few months - and for getting the best out of Marcus Rashford.

Ten Hag gave both Facundo Pellistri and Kobbie Mainoo a chance against Charlton this Tuesday and was delighted with the impact of the former, who he believes has a bright future at Old Trafford.

"I think Pellistri came in, he was lively, and had a good assist with Rashford's finishing," said Ten Hag.

"I see a future in him. You see he's progressing. Against Everton [behind closed doors in training], I was happy with his performance, and I was happy with him in the World Cup. Well done, better, keep going."

United captain Harry Maguire returned to the first team against the Addicks and was full of praise for Rashford after the match.

He said: "He's in great form, it's great to see. Playing with a big smile on his face is the most important thing – enjoying his football, and long may it continue.

"This club demands doing well in all competitions. Last season, not only were we really poor in the Premier League, we were really poor in all the cup competitions as well.

"This club is about winning trophies, we have got to make sure we take each competition really seriously."
