Erik ten Hag gives verdict on David de Gea's Manchester United performance

Erik ten Hag lauded Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea after he kept his eighth clean sheet of the Premier League season.

De Gea has not conceded a goal in 299 minutes of Premier League football and the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth marked his eighth shutout of the season.

United have not sieved a home Premier League goal since the 3-1 defeat of Arsenal on September 4, keeping clean sheets against Newcastle, Tottenham, West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.

De Gea is now three shy of equalling Peter Schmeichel's United clean sheet record of 180. "He performed really well and today he had some brilliant saves," Ten Hag said. "And I think one of the reasons we have so many clean sheets is David de Gea. I think over a couple of games [he made] more great saves, I remember against West Ham, his great save just before full-time.

"In general we don’t concede so many chances but today we had some clear chances against us in the second-half."

United's sole domestic defeat at home this season was on the opening weekend to Brighton and Newcastle are the only side to have avoided a loss at Old Trafford in the league since.

City are the next league visitors at United on Saturday week in the second derby of the season, having scored six past their neighbours at the Etihad in October.

"I think it is if you are strong," Ten Hag said of United's strong home record. "but we only stay strong if we do our jobs and give 100 per cent in every situation.

"I had the feeling [in the] second-half some had the feeling the game is gone and the game is never gone. You saw the reaction of the opponent, they still believed in it and if they get 2-1 they are back in the game."
