Erik ten Hag gives Dean Henderson future update ahead of Man United vs Nottingham Forest

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he will wait until the end of the season to make a decision on the future of Dean Henderson.

The goalkeeper is currently on a season long loan with Nottingham Forest after signing a temporary deal in the summer transfer window. He arrived at the City Ground on the lookout for more game time after being unable to unseat David De Gea at Old Trafford.

Forest travel up to Manchester for their first Premier League match of the month on Tuesday night as domestic football returns. But, the Reds will be without Henderson for the game with the goalkeeper unable to feature against his parent club.

He is due to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season, and could possibly be given a chance to stake a claim for the number one shirt with De Gea out of contract. It has however been suggested that the Spaniard could yet still put pen to paper on a new deal.

That leads to questions over the future of Henderson. Speaking ahead of the visit of Forest, ten Hag revealed that he would wait until the end of the decision to make any decisions over the goalkeeper’s future at the club.

"No, I wouldn't give that decision already now, he said, via Manchester Evening News. “I think he is on a loan for one season.

“During the season, when the season is coming to an end, we will take a decision and that depends on a lot of factors. He is playing really well at Nottingham Forest."

Henderson has played a total of 15 times for Forest in the Premier League since joining in the summer, keeping a clean sheet in his last outing before the break for the World Cup as Forest came out as 1-0 winners over Crystal Palace.

While he won’t be able to feature against United on Tuesday, Henderson is expected to return to the starting XI when Forest take on Chelsea at the City Ground on New Year’s Day.
