Erik ten Hag has insisted that he will be able to "restore" Manchester United to greatness ahead of tonight's crunch visit of Liverpool.
Ten Hag is aiming to avoid becoming the first United manager in 101 years to start his tenure with three straight defeats following the dispiriting losses to Brighton and Brentford.
Before the game, up to 10,000 United fans are due to protest against the club's owners, the Glazer family, outside Old Trafford.
“I’m not here for myself, I’m here for the club and to restore the club,” Ten Hag said. “I knew before that this would be a challenge and I wanted this challenge.
“I knew before it was going to be hard but I wanted that, because in my career, everywhere I started, the start was difficult, but I get it done, and I’m convinced I [will] get it done here as well.
“I chose this project, I knew it’s a process and I will stay consistent to the philosophy and to the plan we had, and I keep confidence in the co-operation I have in the players and the team around me, the coaches and the directors.”
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro could be at the ground tonight as he closes in on a £70million move to United from Real Madrid.
Liverpool are also searching for their first win of the season and midfielder Fabinho says the visitors are not motivated by deepening United's crisis.
“I don’t care if a win pushes them a little bit more into crisis, I just want to beat them and win three points," Fabinho said. "It will be our first three points in the competition so there are a lot of things that give us motivation."
