Eric Bailly impresses on Marseille debut as Ethan Laird sends Manchester United message

Eric Bailly made his debut for Marseille this weekend after securing a loan move to the Ligue 1 club. Bailly fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford over the past year.

The 28-year-old, who has not featured for the United first-team since last December when he played in the Premier League win over Burnley, signed for United in 2016.

With the arrival of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax this summer, Bailly fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford and did not make an appearance in a competitive game this season under Erik ten Hag.

The defender hadn't been named in any of United's three matchday squads in the Premier League before he left last week, with Martinez and Raphael Varane starting in the heart of defence in United's last two outings.

And he would make his debut against Nice in a 3-0 victory. Bailly played 32 minutes as a second-half substitute, impressing in his debut.

Fellow defender, United loanee Ethan Laird also impressed for his temporary club QPR- playing the full game and providing an assist in a 3-2 over Watford.

The right-back's cross was guided home by Chris Willock in the first-half to see QPR go on and get the win. Laird has been a standout performer so far for QPR, continuing his form last season after an impressive loan spell with Swansea City - again sending a message to Ten Hag that he is ready for the United first-team upon his return.
