Enzo Maresca to Celtic latest as 'formal approach' expected

Celtic are reportedly ready to make an official approach for Manchester City No.2 Enzo Maresca.

The Hoops have been heavily linked with the Italian as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou at Parkhead.

And the Scottish Sun reports that the Scottish champions will step up their interest in City's assistant manager after tonight's Champions League final.

They state that Maresca is the leading candidate for the vacant job in Glasgow's east end.

Their report claims that the Celtic hierarchy will make a formal approach to speak to the 43-year-old once his involvement in today's game against Inter Milan is over.

It comes just a matter of weeks after Maresca was wanted by Southampton to guide them back to the Premier League at the first time of asking following their relegation to the Championship.

He rejected that offer after mapping out his intentions to remain at the Etihad working under Pep Guardiola for at least another season.

Maresca has also managed one club in his coaching career to date, and that ended in disaster.

He bombed his only spell as a boss when at Parma in 2021. He was appointed in May on a three-year deal.

In his 13 league games in charge, he only managed four wins and his side was mid-table in Serie B when he was dismissed in the November of that year.

Still, Maresca is highly rated within the City Football Group, something the Parkhead board will listen intently to, just as they did with Postecoglou two years ago.
