Enzo Maresca confirms FA contact as Chelsea boss confirms stance on Thomas Tuchel raid

Enzo Maresca says he will not stand in the way of his Chelsea staff joining Thomas Tuchel’s England coaching set-up.

Tuchel was appointed as the new Three Lions manager earlier this week and is expected to raid his former club as he compiles a new backroom staff.

The German’s assistant has already been confirmed as former Chelsea coach Anthony Barry, who also worked with Tuchel at Bayern Munich. However, the new England boss is also hoping to appoint current Chelsea goalkeeping coach Hilario to his team.

No formal approach for the former Blues goalkeeper has yet been made but, speaking on Friday ahead of his side’s trip to Liverpool, Maresca confirmed that the Football Association have been in contact with one of Chelsea’s analysts over a role under Tuchel.

That is believed to be James Melbourne, who is the Blues’s head of performance analysis and has been at the club since 2005.

“We are quite open to let people take their chances if they want to,” Maresca said. “[On] Hilario, I heard something but there has not been any approach yet. This is the only thing I know.

“But we are open-minded in terms of allowing people to take chances. Also, we are happy to keep people that want to stay. The ones that want to go, they can go.”
