Entire preschool class hospitalised after SUV crashes through wall of California school

Anderson Police Department / Facebook

An entire class of preschool children were hospitalised after an SUV crashed through the wall of their school in central-northern California.

Police said the vehicle struck Great Adventures Christian Preschool in Anderson on Thursday afternoon, going directly into a classroom with 19 young children inside.

Two adult members of staff were also inside the building on Balls Ferry Road and Martha Street, with an image showing the classroom mostly destroyed by the wrecked Suzuki.

A Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) was immediately declared and 14 of the children were airlifted to hospital for treatment, the police department said.

The five other children in the room were taken to the hospital by their parents, according to Anderson Police Chief Jon Poletski.

Two children are thought to remain in an intensive care unit (ICU) and the rest are expected to be released, reports suggest. No fatalities were reported.

The female driver of the vehicle delivered a statement to police before being released, the Redding Searchlight reported.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
