'Entered the Suarez zone' - agent of former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez shares WhatsApp exchange

The agent of former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has shared a text exchange with the player which showed his confidence in his own abilities.

Suarez quickly became a cult hero during his time at Anfield, scoring 83 goals in 133 appearances before leaving in 2014. The Reds agreed a £75million deal with Barcelona for the transfer of the striker, ending a three-and-a-half year stint on Merseyside.

Since then, the 35-year-old has gone on to be a success at club level with Barcelona and, now, Atletico Madrid. He bagged 21 goals to help the club win the La Liga title last term for the first time since 2014.

While the Uruguay international still has ambitions with his club, the striker also has more to give for his national team. His country recently qualified for the 2022 World Cup which is due to be held in Qatar later this year.

However, despite Uruguay finishing third in the South American qualifying table, it wasn’t always so straightforward. Back in November, Suarez and co were in seventh place and in real danger of not qualifying for the tournament.

Suarez’s agent, Martin Rodriguez, has shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp exchange between the pair from November. The messages show that Suarez was still very confident of qualifying for the World Cup despite the odds stacked against them.

Rodriguez suggested that Uruguay’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup were almost over - but Suarez disagreed. The former Liverpool striker wrote: "No because we entered the SUAREZ ZONE. Calm.”

Ever since that exchange between Suarez and Rodriguez, which was on November 18 last year, Uruguay have won their last four matches and qualified for the World Cup with a game to spare. The ex-Reds striker scored in his country’s recent victories over Venezuela and Chile.
