English giants ready to announce signing of one of Welsh rugby's hottest prospects

Gloucester are poised to confirm the signing of Max Llewellyn from Cardiff for next season.

The talented 24-year-old centre will not be snared by the 25-cap Wales rule on exiled players as he has yet to play Test rugby.

But he is leaving the regional scene after six campaigns at the Arms Park and very much on Warren Gatland's radar. The move is expected to be made official some time this week.

Gloucester are likely to wave goodbye to England international Billy Twelvetrees, who has been strongly linked with a move to Ealing Trailfinders, but the capture of the 6ft 5in, 16st 7lb Llewellyn will top up their midfield stocks.

He will add to their strikepower but there is more to his game than hard running, with the former Wales U20s international possessing soft hands and an offloading game.

Llewellyn can also hit sharp angles. You can read more here about the giant son of a former Wales captain and second row who people think could be the real deal as a centre.

The fans' Wales Six Nations verdict: Have your say

Cardiff have long known his exit is coming at a time of extreme turbulence in Welsh rugby, with pay cuts and potential job losses and players leaving.

Llewellyn may have been in contention for a Wales place in the Six Nations, only to sustain an ankle injury that sidelined him for two months.

But he is a player Gatland is expected to keep a close eye on.
