England are in Qatar with high hopes as Gareth Southgate's men hope to put the near misses of the past two major tournaments behind them and finally secure a first major tournament win since 1966.
Gareth Southgate's side got their tournament underway with a resounding 6-2 win against Iran in Group B on Monday. Their group has been labelled the 'group of death', with the highest average ranking for teams of any group in the tournament. Wales and the USA are the other two teams who will be vying to secure a place in the knockout rounds in order to avoid a potential tie against the Netherlands which could await the group runner-up.
Louis van Gaal's side are the favourites to top Group A and began with a 2-0 win against Senegal on Monday and England's win means they are in pole position to face the runner up, with Senegal, Ecuador and host nation Qatar all hoping to qualify as well.

Whatever tie they face, England will have a tough task against any of the qualified teams, however, with the successes of recent tournaments they are unlikely to fear anyone.
