England vs Senegal World Cup player ratings as Saka stakes France claim, Kane dominates

Jordan Pickford - 8

Made a brilliant first half save to deny Boulaye Dia. His left arm kept them level when Senegal were on top. His decision to go long from goal kicks helped them to get forward too. The Evertonian continues to reward Gareth Southgate for his trust and has his third clean sheet in a row.

Kyle Walker - 5

Looked sluggish in the first half against Ismaila Sarr. He wasn't at his best against Wales and was off it from the start. His pace was helpful to keep up but couldn't offer much threat. Defensively not his best but will likely be needed to match-up against Kylian Mbappe for France.

Each game will be a bonus for him after coming in low on fitness.

John Stones - 6

Not his greatest game and looked flustered in the first half. Having seen plenty of the ball he wasn't able to pass through the lines and caused himself and his team some issues. Could have done better with a tough headed chance in the first half but will be happy to take another knockout win with him through the tournament, records a third clean sheet in a row.

Harry Maguire - 5

Not as composed as previous games. Spent longer on the ball and didn't get the ball through midfield as England struggled to play through Senegal. Stones bailed him out on a few occasions when passes went astray but he did have a good moment to keep up with Ndiaye and shrug off a Senegal counter.

Looked better as the game went on and gained control as England went through the gears.

Luke Shaw - 7

A quiet night for Shaw as most attacking moves came from the right. Solid in defence though and shut out Krepin Diatta before he was subbed off at half-time.

Remains in the team as the only left-back but appears physically fit and keeps his threat from crosses. Weighted a nice ball in for Rashford late on and may have had an assist on another night. His relationship with Bellingham on the ball promises to be a key one moving forward.

Declan Rice - 6

The quietest game of his tournament so far but just as solid. Unable to progress play as well as usual but defensively sound in combination with Bellingham and Henderson. His gut-busting run down the right approaching half-time was the most notable action on the ball, but he managed to shut off most of Senegal's central attacks.

Jordan Henderson - 8

Southgate was rewarded with his trust in experience once more. Having been a trigger for England pressing, his run to get into the box and sweep home for the goal was a catalyst to set England on their way.

His leadership once more proved useful having started slowly. Often the first player to move forward in a press, he dictated the tempo well and worked in a balanced midfield alongside Rice and Bellingham. Started to run the game as the game went on and displayed a full range of passing throughout the night.

Jude Bellingham - 8

Words don't do his talents justice. Perhaps one of the most important players in the squad and just 19. His drive and run from midfield just before the break made the second goal.

Managed to balance the driving runs from midfield and offers as the perfect partner for those around him. Capable of being a goal threat and a menace in attack and one of the first and quickest to run back.

Bukayo Saka - 9

Always looked lively and got more of the ball than Foden on the left. Should have done better with Kane's early cross but never went too long without helping England on the ball. His positioning helped to isolate Jakobs and draw time to dribble.

Deserved a goal and showed all his confidence with a brilliant flick to beat Mendy. Another top display and keeps on proving why he's so important to the side on and off the ball.

Harry Kane - 9

Dropped deep as usual but found the key right on half time to score a first goal of the tournament. It appeared his idea to send direct balls forward after going ahead and it worked.

His movement and ghosting positions in the second half were crucial in finding pockets of space to pass, thread and seek his teammates. Had more time and opportunities to create from around the pitch as England took the game to Senegal. Maybe his best 90 minutes of the tournament so far.

Phil Foden - 7

Saw less of the ball than normal but continued to drift inside from the left, allowing Shaw room to move forward. His twinkle toes dribble to set up the third goal was exactly why he's in the side, cutting inside. The cut-back for the goal was just as good, a composed performance on the wing.

Having earned himself a place in the team for this game he looks set to feature against France.
