Multan Test: England thrashed Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test of the three-match series at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The hosts were on 152 for 6 when the stumps were drawn on day 4, with Aamer Jamal (27*) and Agha Salman (40*) were at the crease. The duo had an improbable task in front of them on the final day of the Test as they were looking for a way to salvage their pride and avoid an innings defeat. This was also the first time in the history of Test cricket that a team lost by an innings after scoring more than 500 runs. Pakistan scored 556 runs in their first inning.

Pakistan's batting could not face England's bowling attack, with Agha Salman's 63 being the highest score. Aamer Jamal remained not out on 55 runs as the visitors wrapped up the win by claiming 9 of Pakistan's 10 wickets. Pakistan could only score 220/ 9 in their second innings, with Abrar Ahmed not able to bat on day 5.

England resumed their innimngs on 492 for 3 and scored the fourth-highest team total in the history of the longest format of the game.
Harry Brook (317) and Joe Root (217) stitched together a 454-run partnership for the fourth wicket, helping the visitors to put on 823/7 in their first innings.

The 454 runs partnership between Brook and Root marked the fourth-highest stand in Test history. This stand also broke England's all-time record for the highest partnership.
